UTP Physics Engineering student on internship at Canadian Research Institute
Sebastián García García, a student in the UTP Physics Engineering program, is developing his degree work in the Computational Modeling and Simulation Research Group. In August 2021, Sebastián applied to the MITACS Globalink Internship program. MITACS is an institution that connects talent in different countries to carry out research projects with universities, companies or research centers in Canada.
Sebastian was on a 3-month internship at the INRS – Centre Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications in Varennes, Quebec, as part of a research project by a PhD student at the institute. The project investigated the electronic properties of a heterostructure of different crystalline phases of MoTe2. This material is widely researched worldwide for the interesting properties it displays both in bulk and in two dimensions. Sebastian’s work consisted of optimizing the process of obtaining the heterostructures. The internship was fully funded by MITACS, from tickets to maintenance and obtaining the visa.
